Yan Chuan appears to be the wastral of the prominent Yan family, but the facade is necessary until he is able to sever ties with them completely. Jiang Mo is retrieved from the countryside by the Bai family as a substitute bride. Initially skeptical of her motives, Yan Chuan repeatedly encounters and tests Jiang Mo before the public engagement. She agrees to marry in order to take care of her young brother.
