they both surround the kpop industry and the behind the scenes of what we see. they both have aspiring main leads.
Idol: The Coup (2021)
Similars
They both have characters in the entertainment industry. Luna is an idol band. Idol: The Coup is about idols.
A story about a failed idol group's last journey and their desperate attempts to prevent disbandment. THIS DRAMA IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAV -- THE IDOL LIFE/SUCCESS/FAILURES/ HAPPINESS/ SADNESS -- IDOL LIFE -- THE BOND AND FRIENDSHIP IS LOOKING FAMILIAR WITH THE THE HEAVENLY IDOL BOY BAND GROUP WILD ANIMAL
Miss Back is a variety show but it showed alot about the behind the scenes of "forgotten" idols. they suffer so much mistreatment, they're belittled and ignored, then after years stuck in the feild "training" they're released into the wild outside world confused and lost
Definitely weird to pair these 2 because they are far off from the story line, but hear me out.
If you want to bridge from Kdrama to Jdorama or the other way around (if you enjoyed the writing style of the coup), I highly recommend you this. My reason leans more on to the Japanese side of making dramas
It is similar, in the essence of Jdoramas that you get a dilemma at the start of the drama, which will be resolved at the middle but put the character/s in a pinch again before the end for the next episode. Still the characters and story revolves around the original plot.
In my opinion, as an avid audience of both country, , Idol: the coup can par the cycle writing of Kakenai.
Idol the Coup makes me think that the drama is like Misaeng but idol version. Then I realized that the screenwriter of both dramas is the same person.
Both dramas covers:
- Slice of life
- Intense struggle and burden of life
- Poor main leads
- The female lead in Idol the Coup resembles the character of the male lead in Misaeng
Both revolve around "failed" groups that learn and grow, as people and as a team, and strive once more to achieve their dreams and success
they both have that vibe, the sismance, unexpected friendships, hardships and struggles of people who're following their passion against the world
Both series start out with an idol group that is no longer popular and no one really pays attention to anymore. I believe both FL are the leaders of the group, they struggle to make it in the entertainment world but as they meet headstrong ML, slowly ML starts to have feelings for FL.
Love line between the CEO and the artist.
The plot is a little different since in Dream High they are students and in Idol they are already in a group but it has the saw "fighting to get to the top" storyline.
Even the drama types are different but both of them have a beautiful girl friendship. Almost age of youth shows the romantic life of girls but idol: the coup shows the work life of them as idols.
I really enjoyed Hit the top. It deals with a fantasy element but also with music and trying to make it. I think you’d enjoy it if you liked Idol: The coup.
Much like the premise of ThamePo, Idol : The Coup is centered on a k-pop girl group which decides to have their final comeback before disbandment. Both (although ThamePo hasn't come out yet, I'm assuming based on trailers) focus on the hardships and struggles of being an idol.
Both are about idol singers who failed after they debuted. Only difference is one proceed on changing their interest towards make up and the other one keeps on trying to keep her goal as a an idol singer.
