The writer is writing a novel with a pencil. The main female character in the novel falls in love, becomes estranged, and finally breaks up with a man. She then overdoses and kills herself. At that moment, the writer's pencil breaks. The novel stops, and the writer sharpens his pencil. The main character in the novel throws up the pills she was taking to kill herself and comes back to life. She does not want to die. She is now fighting for her life and looking for a notebook and something to write with.
