Jejoongwon

7.8 2010

Both drama set during the late Joseon period, with the threat of Japanese occupation looming on the horizon. They also deal with how Joseon, with its class-based system, failed its people.
Man of Will

7.9 2017

Both revolutionary themed, the timelines are close and it shows the time period right before Man of Will so I do recommend watching Nokdu Flower first!
Both shows: > Focused heavy on the relationship of two brothers (one of them blood-related, the other sworn brothers). That relationship, however, becomes rocky as the brothers find themselves fighting on different sides; ending up meeting each other in battle. > The Second Male Lead (one of the brothers) ends up struggling to find their place and, as a result, face plenty of identity crisis. Their painful journey is very heartwrenching, but the result is that they end up stealing the show with their amazing performances. > Have an antagonistic parental figure. > Female leads are good, but their impact and contribution to the show is minimal. > Have a small side-plot of romance. > Male Leads end up going to war and finding a click, becoming the leader of their group of misfits. > Second Male Leads end up going to war and struggle not to be stabbed in the back. They end up losing hope, but attain one loyal man (their sidekick). > Male Leads end up giving their loyalty to a man who's trying to change the nation.

Both shows involve half brothers fighting on opposite sides. Both showcase a strong female lead. In both, the Male Lead start without a goal, but an incident causes them to grow and become more responsible. The Male Leads also become a leader to their respective teams.
Both take place in the 19th century Joseon, when the Japanese invaded Korea. ML is fighting for justice and for the weak and poor, just like they are fighting the system in The Nokdu Flower.
My Dearest

8.9 2023

Some part in my dearest remind me of the nokdu flower, the war, the camera shot. The nokdu flower also has some mystery characters, amazing plot and best Actor in that drama
Similarities: * Rebellion * Brothers forced/manipulated to fight on opposite sides * Badass brother * Smart female lead Differences: In Bridal Mask the eldest brother hides his resistance activities from his siblings, also there's a love triangle between both brothers and their love interest.
Both tell historical story: - 1987 is about the Democracy Movement which reached its climax when Park Jong Chul, a collage student was tortured to dead - Nokdu Flower is about the Donghak Peasant Revolution in 1894, which peasants stood up to fight for their freedom, to be considered as human beings Both movies gave me goosebumps and made me feel so emotional. 1987 is more like a documentary movie whilst Nokdu is a TV drama with many different elements such as romance, comedy, drama,...
Both about strong bond between 2 brothers - Brothers deeply caring about eachother - Evil existing in the little brother while the older bro does his best to help him lose it
Both historical dramas have... > characters participating in political battles against the current regime/government. > a group of people wanting to change their country partly to help people out of their poverty. > characters entering the path of darkness to gain more power for themselves and their families. > traditional Korean OST. > lots of action/battles etc. > romantic relationships, which sometimes get in the way of/or even fuel the characters ambitions. > amazing quotes about politics, philosophy, war etc. > the same director, also many of the same supporting actors. If you loved one, you're up for an exciting ride with the other!
